Despite GM’s plan to end end Australian production in 2017, tuning partner HSV will likely remain in business to create manic versions of Holden-badged products beyond that point.
When General Motors announced its plan last year to shutter domestic Holden production, it wasn’t clear if the tuner – tied directly to Holden – would survive. According to Cars Guide, the company recently re-hired its former chief engineer Joel Stoddart who is responsible for the HSV GTS (pictured).
Plans for future products are still unclear, but Holden said in early May that it would import three Opel-based nameplates including the twin-turbo V6 Insignia XVR that HSV could be planning to tune.
Stoddart didn’t tell Cars Guide what HSV is working on but said the company is around “for the long haul.”
Previous reports suggested HSV was considering a move to Michigan where GM is producing Alpha-based cars like the next-generation Camaro due for the 2016 model year.
